Here are some tips to help you select the optimum shape and size of clip-on sunglasses to get the best fit to your prescription glasses.
Important note
Printing out the relevant Size Guide at 100% is the only way to ensure you order the correct size! Set Page Scaling to NONE before printing the PDF otherwise the Size guide will not be accurate!
How Solarclips attach to your glasses
Solarclips clip-on sunglasses are held in place by the tension from the spring-bridge and four small, plastic coated clips, two on either side of each lens.
The clips will fit over glasses with metal, plastic, or rimless frames with lenses up to 5 mm thick at the edges.
Ensure you PRINT OUT and check the position of the four clips
When choosing the shape and size of clip-ons to order, it is important to Ensure you PRINT OUT and check that the position of these clips will touch your spectacle frames, otherwise the sunglasses will not be held securely.
The position of these clips is shown in the photograph below and is marked on all the downloadable size guide sheets, so you should Ensure you PRINT OUT and check them when you overlay your specs.

What shape are your prescription glasses?
Decide which of the shapes of Solarclips pictured down the left hand side of this web page are most similar to the lens shape of your glasses. You may find the following points helpful.
Glasses with rectangular lenses
If the lenses on your glasses are rectangular, we suggest you start by looking at the Tru Rec shape illustrated below. Here we show the clip on sunglasses fitted over RayBan designer frames.

Solarclips Tru Rec 54 and 56 clip-ons also fit over many plastic framed spectacles, provided that the rims are no thicker than 4-5 mm. An example of Tru Rec 56 copper over Tortoiseshell frames is shown here:

Glasses with shallow rectangle lenses
If the lenses on your glasses are shallower, try the Slim Rectangle, as illustrated below. The smaller depth of this shape tends to be suitable for reading glasses and some contemporary frames with shallow lenses.

Glasses with deeper rectangle lenses
If your glasses are deeper than the Tru Rec shape, look at the Rectangle range.

The photo above shows a man wearing Solarclips Rec 50 clip-ons.
Glasses with curved rectangle, oval or lozenge shaped lenses
Many modern styles of prescription glasses have lenses that are based on a rectangle but have curved rather than straight edges. If your frames are deeper than the True Rectangle, but are shallower than the Deep Rectangle shape, then the Lo Rec may be the most suitable for your glasses.
Lo Rec is suited to curved rectangle lenses

Lo Rec is also suited to lozenge or oval shaped frames

Glasses with oval lenses
If your frames are a shallower oval shape, try the Mod Rec shape illustrated below.

Glasses with Almond-shaped lenses
If your spectacles are deeper than the Lo Rec, try our Almond clipons, based on a modified Aviator shape.

Using the Size Guides
On the page for your selected shape of Solarclips, click the link to the Size Guide to download it, then follow the instructions to print it out at 100%.
Ensure you PRINT OUT the size guide - you won’t get an accurate result just by looking at it on screen!
Important: Set Page scaling to NONE before printing the PDF otherwise the Size guide will not be accurate! The Page scaling menu appears on the dialog box that opens when you click the Print icon at the top of the PDF window (illustrated in the screen print below).

When you have printed out the Size Guide at 100%, check that the millimetre rule on each size guide page corresponds exactly with a ruler or tape measure to ensure it has printed actual size.
Now overlay your glasses onto the outlines of the clip on sunglasses and select whichever size is the closest match.
If, after using the size guides you are not sure which of two sizes will fit best, we recommend you order both and then return one for a refund.
For your convenience, here are links to all the Size Guides:
What if none of the Solarclips range fit my glasses?
If none of our spring clip on sunglasses appear to fit your glasses, you may wish to look at our range of flip up sunglasses. These are often the best solution for children’s frames and also for larger frames.
